River Study #1

March, 2010; acrylic, watercolor, gouache; 14 in. x 10 in.

Our backyard river, the Winchuck, is such an inspiration at all times, but particularly in the cooler months, when rain is frequent here in Southern Oregon. I've decided to spend the next while exploring how it "really looks."

Your versatility is remarkable, David. Interesting, the ways these paintings relate to the more abstract work, as well as how they differ.

Thanks, Don; last time I painted like this was just out of college in the early 70s, in oils. I'm so pleased to have figured out how to do it with watermedia. I seem to benefit from switching back and forth between improvised play and referenced study.
